It reached 96 today and, of course, I hated it!!
I had class last weekend, Poetry, and it went well. Yesterday, Monday, my parents took off of work to help me clean out my classroom. It still hasn't hit me yet. I don't think it will until the day I start preparing my next classroom at another school. It is definitely weird to see my bright, colorful room look so plain and drab. I am so anxious to know where I will end up next school year. I am holding out for the district to hire 29 literacy teacher positions because then all of the people will leave their current positions and I'll have a better idea of what is available. Right now nothing is available except for some title I P.I. west-end schools that require an interview, so we'll see.
Bean and Pope came over last night, and my parents treated all of us to Panda Express. We enjoyed the warm summer eve eating in the backyard. I had to go back to my classroom to organize the 6th grade books today, and had both kids with me. It took WAY longer than I thought, so I was frustrated. I took the kids to The Fountains afterward and we had lunch at Counter Burger with Lori & Megan and then played in the water and on the playground. I love summer vacay with my kiddos. I hope that I feel the same way this year teaching summer school. Shannonhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08159065087583857686noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4837537258871007984.post-61186972260834392542011-06-07T18:07:00.000-07:002011-06-07T18:21:17.218-07:00I Can Smell Summer. . .It's Tuesday afternoon of the last week of school. I took my 6th graders to Raging Waters today, probably the last time I'll ever do that, seeing how I am being surplussed from my position next fall. I'm tired from writing a curriculum unit for my M.Ed. program until 1:30am, slightly sunburned on my cheeks, and counting down until that final bells rings on Friday! I can't wait to spend more time with my amazing kiddos. I just wish George had more time off in the summer too.

Jayden is almost 2, amazing. He is such a ball of fun these days and, amazingly, plays by himself so well. He is ALL about cars these days. You'll usually find him walking with TWO cars, one in each hand. Either that, or his blanket. He's my little Linus. He does the strangest thing. When he plays with his cars, which is often, he usually lays his head down either on the table or floor he's playing on. Silly kid. Makes him look like he's always tired. He's speaking more and more, but still not nearly as much as Madison did at his age :-) I accidentally pulled his elbow out of socket the other day and felt horrible. Luckily, I was able to get Dr. Wang on the phone (it was a Sunday night) and he told me how to fix it and it worked!

Madison has definitely turned three. They say "Terrible Twos", but I think all parents know it's really the "Terrible Threes". She is still super smart and funny and helpful, but she can throw a temper!! She loves to say "I don't want to!" and "I can do it all by myself!". Sometimes it's a great thing, that she can do things on her own, but other times it is, well, annoying. She loves to hold Jay-Jay's hand when walking to the park and playing "store" with her play cash register. That tells me that she's my daughter :)

We've had such cold weather until today. I think it reached 83 degrees, which was great! I know the really hot days are coming and I'm not looking forward to them at all. I will be teaching 4/5 combo for summer school, so this summer will sure be different. Other big news. . oh, we bought a minivan last weekend! We purchased a 2008 Nissan Quest, white with a DVD player, so that should make life more comfortable. It's great timing as we are driving to Washington State to be a part of Aaron Hansen's wedding. We also enjoyed selling our 1999 Corolla to Diauni (Kara Perry's step-daughter) as her first car. She paid us some cash and then is making monthly payments for four months. It feels good to sell my first new car to someone I know, rather than trade it into a dealer. I hope she has some great memories in it too. George will also be switching schools next fall, but staying in Loomis. He's the one driving the minivan on a daily basis, but he loves it!Shannonhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08159065087583857686noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4837537258871007984.post-43418628452550865662011-03-22T22:18:00.000-07:002011-03-22T22:18:31.634-07:00Springtime is Here!Somehow three more months have escaped me without blogging. And now Madison will be THREE is only a few days, and our little Jay-Jay is almost 20 months!!! Time flies! Let's see. . . Madison is now officially potty trained! Actually, she was officially using the potty for "number 1" since we started in December, but only in the last two weeks has she had NO accidents with "number 2", very exciting around here. She is such a big girl and loves to do everything by herself these days. We here, "I wanna do it by myself" all of the time. Sometimes it's great, sometimes it's a bit annoying, but overall I'm pleased that my little girl is becoming so independent. She continues to talk our ears off and sings a lot, which we love.
Jayden is talking more and even puts together two words here and there. He loves to be tickled and seems to be really into trains, cars, and balls (typical boy). He loves to sit on the potty like his sister, so I want to start potty training this summer. Can't believe that we'll be starting this again! We're preparing for a drive to southern California for my cousin Eric's wedding this weekend. We're gonna sneak in a couple days at DISNEYLAND while we're there. I'm SO excited!!! Shannonhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08159065087583857686noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4837537258871007984.post-81108411357016214312011-01-05T00:23:00.000-08:002011-01-05T00:23:06.983-08:00Happy Holidays 2010!"It's the most wonderful time of the year!" Christmas break just finished and I am back to work, but full of memories from an eventful holiday season.
It started off stressful due to my wallet being stolen from my purse at WalMart on the 21st and then a raging toothache the day after (a route canal is in my near future). Once Christmas came, however, all things were merry and bright. It was such a joy to see the excitement on Madison's face on Christmas morning. Jayden didn't quite get the concept yet, but he LOVES his new basketball hoop and is constantly asking us to put him on the play table so that he is tall enough to shoot hoops. The kids were spoiled by the whole family, as usual, but Madison reciprocated by drawing pictures in all of the family Christmas cards.
Our biggest thrill of the holiday break was successfully potty training Madison!!! After trying several times, the concept seemed to click for her this time and she has gone a week without any accidents! We celebrated her achievement by taking her to her first movie theater experience, to see Tangled at Greenback Cinemas. Jayden got his first haircut the other day, and I'm so sad to have his curls be gone, but he looks so grown up and handsome! He started out calm during the haircut, but definitely lost it a bit with crying toward the end. His newest development - counting to TEN! He is so funny, he'll just count from 1-10 for no reason, or sometimes randomly count things around the house. My smart little boy.
George had knee surgery on the 29th and will be home for the next week recuperating. It is his second knee surgery, so we're hoping that this is the last one.

We missed grandma during this holiday season, as Christmas was very much her favorite time of year. I hope she knows that we think of her often and say hello to her in our nighttime prayers with Madison.Shannonhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08159065087583857686noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4837537258871007984.post-39488867465883888432010-12-29T23:39:00.001-08:002010-12-29T23:39:23.685-08:00George had knee surgery for the second time today. All went well and he is propped up on the couch downstairs for now. Kelly, Dave, and Laura came over tonight and made chili and cornbread, yum! Madison is doing well with potty training this week. We started on Sunday the 20th and she's used the potty 21 times! Today she pooped in the potty for the first time! Funny the things we get excited about as parents!Shannonhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08159065087583857686noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4837537258871007984.post-83665614630070209742010-12-19T14:35:00.001-08:002010-12-19T14:35:11.064-08:00Madison went pee pee on the potty!!!! So very exciting in our household!!!! I was in Auburn, so George called me so that Madison could share her exciting news! I'm so proud and hope she continues to do it!Shannonhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08159065087583857686noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4837537258871007984.post-31368161050248638932010-12-14T08:43:00.000-08:002010-12-19T08:54:43.780-08:00Jayden Gives Us a Scare! We went to see Santa at the Galleria last Monday and after four snapshots, we finally got a photo with the kids both looking at the camera, although lacking smiles. Afterward, while playing in the family bathroom area, Jayden ran his head into the sharp corner of the glass TV frame!! Blood came rushing from his head while his screams filled the room. Luckily my parents were with me, so my mom watched Madison while my dad and me tried to stop the bleeding with paper towels. I was terrified, trying to map an escape route to the nearest hospital while calming my frightened son. Thankfully, the bleeding stopped quickly and we saw that Jayden had a small "hole" on his head instead of a large cut, so stitches wouldn't be necessary. What does Jayden want to do right afterward? Run right over to play the same game that caused this whole situation!! I guess he hasn't grasped the concept of cause and effect yet!Shannonhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08159065087583857686noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4837537258871007984.post-68326482476261410602010-11-13T08:51:00.000-08:002010-11-27T09:15:54.922-08:00November 2010 UPDATEWell, it sure has been awhile since my last post!
Jayden is now almost 16 months (in 3 days) and still has his adorable curly blond hair. He has been walking since 12.5 months and we enjoy watching his chubby body run all over the place. He is saying several words, such as: Mommy, Daddy, hot, Elmo (new!), kitty cat, meow, moo, down, Nana, Papa, Oma, sissy, ball, and even his own version of "Here you go" :-) I guess we say that to him a lot! He gave us a scare Thanksgiving night, screaming from 11-1am, so George took him to the Emergency Room. We realized that he hadn't had a bowel movement for close to 2 days and wasn't eating much, so the doctor gave my boy a suppository and by the later that day, he was a happy boy after getting to release his waste. A screaming baby in the middle of the night is NO FUN!!

Madison is now 2.5 years old and her Nana taught her how to say "Two and a half", so that's really cute. She continues to be a Chatty Kathy and delights us everyday with things she says. We love trying to get her to say long words (I think George taught her 'cartilage' the other day, lol). She is still in diapers, unfortunately, but I just can't believe how hard it is for the parent to attempt to potty train, starting with time, especially when you have two toddlers. I know it can be done, I think I'm just lazy :-) I keep saying, "During the next school break. . " but then the vacation gets packed with things to do and I don't get around to it, how sad. She LOVES to dance and play drums and sings to me all of the time. Her very favorite thing to do is "draw pictures" (as she says it). She is an absolute joy 99% of the time, and the other 1% she is a toddler (and of course she and Jayden save those moments for when we are in public!)

Both kids still continue to raised by their Oma (G's mom) while George and I work, and we couldn't be more appreciative or happy about this arrangement. All of our parents are just the most amazing grandparents, express so much love to our children, and are extremely helpful in allowing George and me to take date nights :-)Shannonhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08159065087583857686noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4837537258871007984.post-4608295689294293622010-10-18T23:03:00.000-07:002010-10-18T23:03:28.171-07:00Jayden's 1-Year PhotosOur photographer, Julio Rodriguez, took Jayden's 1-year photo in July 2010 in a Roseville field. Jayden took his first steps on July 12th and officially started walking on August 12th, his Opa's birthday. He says, "ball, uh-oh, and Daddy". He is our chunky monkey, as he weighed in at 27lbs 30in at his 12-month appointment. He is also officially sleeping through the night consistently - yay!
What an interesting end of the school year. I had to suspend three students on the last day of school, it was awful. The last day ended up being great, however, but still sad inside. I went to bed at 8:30 that night, and slept until 7am, it felt so good.
The family is doing great. Madison is now 2yr 2mo and such a wonderful little chatterbox. She has seemed a bit moody lately, but we're chalking it up to being a toddler. For the most part, she is very polite and listens either the first or second time we say something. The countdown to time out works EVERY time, it's amazing. I can't remember the last time I had to actually put her on a time out. Her longest sentence has been 11 words. She did great at her 2yr old well visit, and doesn't need one now until she's 3, amazing.
Jayden is 10.5mo grows to be more fun every day. He can say, "ball", "clap", and "uh oh" now. He also will clap and sometimes wave. He STILL is not crawling, but he cruises around the whole house while holding on to furniture. I can't believe that he will be one in like 6 weeks!!! Madison and Jay just love each other and are so sweet to each other.
We went to Dave & Buster's last night to celebrate Annette's birthday and had a blast. We won a ton of tickets and got Maddie a barking/walking dog and Jayden a D&B ball. We hung out at the Fountains afterward with K&W and K&J.
I've now completed two Master's courses, and have had the first class of my 3rd, Movement and dance. It is hard to keep up with class and papers, but I can't wait for that raise.
Renee's wedding is in 2 weeks, and I found my bridesmaid dress today for a great deal!! Alana had her baby girl last week, as well as our friend Melissa. We have two other friends who are due this summer, as well as my cousin's wife. So many weddings and babies!!!!
LIFE IS GOOD!

It's officially Spring Break in our house!! I'm off all week and George is off through Wednesday - woo hoo!

On Friday, George had the big 'V' procedure, our best chance at keeping our family at 2 kiddos. I'm so proud of him for agreeing to do the procedure and handling it so well. He's definitely uncomfortable right now, but is a trooper (AND doesn't want me to keep reminding him how I birthed two of his children through my special place, lol).

Madison will be TWO years old on Wednesday the 31st! She is now saying 5-6 word sentences. The other day I was sharing my toast with her at dinner and she kept saying, "Maddie eat toast more, please." So cute. She is constantly saying new words and is still very loving to her brother. She does enjoy the word 'no' at times, but I feel that George and I have some really good routines with her, so we haven't felt the burden to terrible twos just yet.

Jayden will be 8 months on Tuesday. He is such a big eater and is just so adorable! He blabs a lot more lately and can hold himself up at a table. He is not, however, crawling or really even rolling over yet. He's our little lazy baby. He will hold his own bottle, but won't feed himself even finger foods. He is thoroughly entertained by Madison and loves being outdoors.

I, like always, over-planned this vacation. We were supposed to start potty training Madison today, but my parents graciously offered to take her for the weekend while George recuperates. I have a paper for one of my Master's classes due Monday that is not done, play dates on Tuesday and Friday, a rehearsal for Easter on Thursday night, Madison's 2nd birthday party next Saturday, and then Easter next Sunday, WHEW!!! not to mention, I have papers to grade and wanted to catch up on some school lesson planning.

Let's see. . . Madison is about to turn TWO on March 31, amazing! Jayden is 7.5 months and changing SO much! He is babbling a lot more these days, and has even said "Dada" twice (accidentally, of course). Madison just loves being an older sister. She melts our hearts when she goes over and kisses Jayden with being prompted, so cute! Madison is SUCH a talker, like 5-6 word sentences all of the time!!! We had sickness run through our house for like two weeks, so that was not fun. Other than that, the kiddos are GREAT and we still feel so blessed everyday.

I started a Masters program in February that meets once a month for 22 months, so that's one more thing on my plate, but I chose a great program (Integrated Teaching Through the Arts), and am looking forward to saying I'm a Master (lol) and receiving my Masters RAISE.

George just wrapped up the play, "The Interviews" at Magic Circle Theater in Roseville. He had a big part and really enjoyed the experience. Our good friend, Brian Scott Jagger, wrote and directed the hilarious play!

Hope everyone is well!Shannonhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08159065087583857686noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4837537258871007984.post-50215783510524575902010-01-02T21:05:00.000-08:002010-02-15T20:46:20.366-08:00Happy New Year!

Happy 2010! The year 2009 brought us so much joy, especially because of the birth of Jayden. We are such a blessed family, and count those belssings every day. We rang in the new year at Kara & Julio's home with many different types of fondue (yummy!) and then at our neighbor's house. Unbelievably, Madison stayed up until 1am with ease! She's SO my daughter.
She is doing very well in her big girl bed, and Jayden transitioned extremely easily to his crib.Shannonhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08159065087583857686noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4837537258871007984.post-32642560550928350432009-12-29T22:40:00.000-08:002009-12-29T22:46:13.896-08:003rd Night's a Charm!!As I blogged a couple of days ago, Madison's first night in her "big girl bed/room" didn't go so well. We counted, and ended up putting her back to bed FIFTY TIMES!! Well, the next night, Sunday, she stayed at her Oma & Opa's house, but Monday night we were back to the transition of changing rooms, and it only took 7 times of putting her back to bed. Tonight is night 3 and. . .she went down easily!!! Ironically, she was a terror today for me (I'm on Christmas break) and I just about lost my mind having her all day, but when I went to blow off some steam at the gym, she went to bed without struggle for George. I'm just happy she's asleep in her new room!! Jayden is sleeping in the crib for the 3rd night in a row, so we officially have our room back!

BTW, Madison is now saying 4 word sentences!!! She communicates so well, it amazes us everyday. She loves to say, "turn the lights on?" when we pull in the garage because she wants to turn the Christmas lights on and, "Mommy/Daddy where are you?" when she's looking for one of us!! Sadly, she started calling me "Mom" today, instead of her usual "Mommy". I like being Mommy!Shannonhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08159065087583857686noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4837537258871007984.post-70003078706231646952009-12-27T00:26:00.000-08:002009-12-27T00:26:21.785-08:00Maddie moves to "Big Girl Room". . . long nightGeorge and I decided tonight was the night to move Madison into her "pink room" to sleep in her twin bed so that we can move Jayden into the nursery with the crib because he's quickly out growing his bassinet. Well, I thought everything was going well at first: drank milk, took a bath, brushed teeth, read books, and then layed her down for night night. Two hours later. . . she was finally asleep. BUT, one hour after that, she was up crying and coughing. George is up with her now (it's 12:30am), and she's still crying and coughing. We have a humidifier in her room, and she hasn't coughed all day (although she was coughing this morning), so I'm not sure what's going on with her. I wish this didn't have to be so hard. Transitioning is so tough on little ones. Why can't she just go to sleep in her new bed??? This was why we decided to try it on a Saturday, so that neither one of us has to work tomorrow.
Wish us luck!Shannonhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08159065087583857686noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4837537258871007984.post-56186731469423913882009-12-22T13:38:00.000-08:002009-12-24T01:44:02.341-08:00Madison's 1st HaircutOn Tuesday, December 22nd, we took Madison for her first haircut. Part of me had a hard time having her haircut because she has so little hair to begin with, but the mullet look HAD to go, so off it went. She started out seeming all excited, but quickly switched to her nervous face when she got into the chair. The, the tears started falling and didn't stop the WHOLE time!!! The poor hairdresser tried many things to calm her and finally got her to giggle and relax by allowing her to spray a mirror with water over and over. Now Maddie's hair doesn't look very different from the front, but the back is cut like a bob and looks good!
He is 17lbs 11oz (almost 90th percentile!) and 25.5 inches (50th percentile). He is holding is head up very well, and although he doesn't really enjoy tummy time, he is getting better at staying on his tummy for longer increments. He also rolled over for the first time the other day, so he is definitely getting interested in moving around on his own!

Madison hasn't had a doctor's visit in awhile, but I did let her step on the scale at one of my Weight Watchers meetings a couple of weeks ago and she's 27 pounds! She talks constantly (can't imagine who she gets that from :-p ) and is an interesting mixture of being a daredevil, yet cautious. She is such a big helper around the house and with Jayden and absolutely LOVES Elmo!

We have had some trying times this month: George's car broke down, we had a toilet overflow upstairs and leak through the downstairs ceiling, and then my car window was bashed in at work (luckily nothing was taken and no one was hurt). Through all of these hurdles, we are reminded how lucky we are in life and how family is more important than stuff.

Here's a picture of their visit to Santa Claus. Their Oma, Nana, Grammie, Great Aunt Annette, and cousin Peter took them while George and I worked because it was the best time to do it without much of a crowd. We were bummed not to be there, but appreciate our family taking them and getting such a great picture!
I'm applying to Graduate School! I'm so excited and nervous at the same time. My application process is not complete however, just the actual application is turned in and I'm in the process of collecting/producing all of the required paperwork (recommendations, transcripts, personal statement, etc). I'm applying for a Master's of Education in Curriculum & Technology: Integrated Teaching Through the Arts. it sounds like such a great program for me and it is SO convenient, only meeting one weekend a month. So, wish me luck all. I plan to get all of the paperwork in by next week and will hopefully hear from them soon!Shannonhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08159065087583857686noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4837537258871007984.post-56587924795065501272009-12-09T23:21:00.000-08:002009-12-09T23:23:38.951-08:00George saved Madison's Life!Today, for the 2nd time in the last month or so, George basically saved Madison's life by pounding on her back to get her to cough up food stuck in her throat!!! So scary!!! I was at the gym BOTH times it happened, and am so grateful that George is fast on his feet! Life is so precious.Shannonhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08159065087583857686noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4837537258871007984.post-88783620128781638442009-12-06T20:26:00.000-08:002009-12-13T23:37:24.673-08:00Snowfall in Auburn!December 6th brought SNOW to much of northern California, especially in the foothills, so I HAD to take the kids up to my parent's home in Auburn to play. Madison seemed to enjoy playing in the snow and making a snowman with her Papa. She talked about her snowman all the way home! It was such a beautiful sight to see Auburn covered in snow!
Also, we took the kids to Auburn's Festival of Lights on December 5th. It was cold, but we were bundled pretty well and enjoyed the small town tradition.

Our beautiful family- Madison 20mo & Jayden 4mo

Shannonhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08159065087583857686noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4837537258871007984.post-6409227122189959202009-11-27T21:54:00.000-08:002009-11-27T21:59:48.571-08:00Happy Thanksgiving! There are so many wonderful things to be thankful for this year. November 24th marked one year from when I found out that I was, shockingly, pregnant with Jayden. It was such a scary time for me, but it has turned out to be such a wonderful blessing!! George and I are SO happy to have him in our lives and complete our happy family. I'm also so thankful for my beautiful daughter. Madison is pure entertainment these days, constantly copying words we say, laughing, and dancing around.
I am also thankful for extended family. We spent the holiday at George's parents' house in Roseville, and my parents and grandmother came too. All of our family holidays are spent together like that. To us, it's normal but I know that most people don't have this luxery and I'm thankful for it. Unfortunately, this year my brother and his girlfriends weren't able to make it due to illness and we missed them terribly! Additionally, I am so thankful for all of my friends. A sentence I'm sure you've heard many times, but I TRULY mean it. I just wish I was able to see them more. Thank goodness for social websites like Facebook because they allow me to keep in touch.
Especially at this point in our nation's history, I am thankful that George and I both have jobs, and ones we love.

Last, but certainly not least, I am thankful for my amazing husband, George. Without him, my life would seem empty. He is everything all of those romantic comedies portray the lead male character to be. . . he truly does complete me. I love you babe!Shannonhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08159065087583857686noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4837537258871007984.post-24844990230864452982009-11-23T22:55:00.000-08:002009-11-23T22:55:09.325-08:00Family Portraits 2009

On Monday, November 23rd, we took family portraits fr the fall and our Christmas pictures. Our good friend Julio Rodriguez does photography on the side through his own company JR-Imaging www.jr-imaging.com. For those of you that have attempted family portraits with little ones, you can appreciate how exhausted we were after only a 1-hr session. Not to mention the fact that the kids took turns crying and having meltdowns. In the end, we got some great photos that will add to our memories.Shannonhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08159065087583857686noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4837537258871007984.post-21305698652711916232009-10-31T14:47:00.000-07:002009-11-12T14:54:36.988-08:00Halloween 2009If you know the Delzer family, you know that we LOVE Halloween! this year, Madison had TWO costumes, a fairy and a ladybug, as well as Jayden, a pumpkin and a giraffe. We enjoyed several events: George's work's fall event, my school's fall festival, Apple Hill, and a special Halloween photo shoot with baby friends Trip (Wayne) and Elle (Eleanor). Madison attempted Trick-or-Treating, but wanted to go home after the first house. Oh well, we'll see what she thinks next year. She did, however, enjoy passing out candy! Jayden was 3 months on 10/30 and Madison was 19 months on 10/31.

Maddie's first pony ride (at Apple Hill):
<img style="cursor: pointer;
